More About
Lake ATITLÁN
Surrounded by rolling green hills and Mayan villages, the lake is home to legends of a sunken city, stories of treasure quests, and the heart of ancient Mayan culture.
The deep blue water of the lake sits in a huge volcanic crater formed 84,000 years ago and is the deepest lake in Central America. It's depth remains a scientific mystery as it's water level rises and falls about every 50 years swallowing houses and anything that is too close to it's shore.
So it is not without merit that many consider Lake Atitlán a metaphysical location and place of healing and spiritual mystery. For those not spiritually inclined, it's sheer majesty and picturesque beauty will move you and inspire you as you write and work.
